Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is held every October in countries all around the world. This month is dedicated to increase the awareness of breast cancer, early detection, and treatment. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide. There are approximately 1.38 million new cases of breast cancer and 458,000 deaths each year.

Currently there is no sufficient knowledge on the causes of breast cancer. Therefore, early detection of the disease is the best way to control breast cancer. You can learn how to do a self-breast exam by following this link: https://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/testing/types/self_exam?gclid=CjwKCAjwzvX7BRAeEiwAsXExo-_rYxZ5Fq5kR0fDVhy_82ziqXBiQNuAYuzaI_et07R-qHkROiTyPxoC1SIQAvD_BwE. Less than 15% of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer have a family member diagnosed with it. 85% of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of the disease!

Men are not excluded from this disease! It is estimated that 2,620 will be diagnosed with breast cancer. While it’s rare in men, you should still do self-checks and consult your doctor right away if you see or feel a lump.

If 2020 has taught us anything, it is that we are all in this together. Ensure you are taking action to control breast cancer. Perform self-examinations – early detection is key. Get educated – the more you know, the better you are. Volunteer – help other women in need.
